It’s so hard sometimes, isn’t it? Seems like you can be groovin’ on an idea one minute then blank the next. Or you have something you know you need to do and just can’t find a way to get started. This happens to me. In fact it did just recently. Our team has been hard at work. And one BIG project we were working on was super fun…even through the hard stressful times of pulling together something as massive as we were. Once the project was complete, we celebrated! And when I look back at it, I don’t see the stress and sleepless nights. I see fun. Get your hands dirty fun with our WHOLE team.
As I struggled to get started on a project yesterday, I found myself looking back at that big, fun project and I pinpointed that what made the project so enjoyable for me was our team all had equal skin in the game. We were all in it together. Collaboration in the truest sense of the word. And there is a bonding that happens in a situation like that that you can’t get any where else.
So what am I saying? Should everyone collaborate? Maybe. And if you have no one to collaborate with? (BrightSpot can help with that, btw). Collaboration is a way I get the inspiration that motivates me to work on whatever it is I’m working on. But maybe collaboration isn’t what gets you going. Maybe it’s music. Maybe it’s a certain environment. Maybe it’s coffee–or wine! Whatever it may be, I think it’s critical that you find a way to incorporate the things that truly motivate you into your every day.
For me that looks like finding time to talk with my team about the projects I’m working on and getting their input ideas–keeping myself out of the silo. What does it look like for you? What gets you motivated and how do you stay motivated when you’re in the weeds?
